Ƶ has a new tool that displays the availability of the Wimberly Library’s more than 230 student computers. The recently designed Computer Availability tool updates every 15 seconds and pinpoints the available computers on the library’s first floor in the Reference Department and the Alumni Alcove area and on the second floor in the Computer Lab/Computer Commons area.Besides the computers, the map shows the location of printers, scanners and other machines including charging stations for mobile devices, vending and cash to account stations.

Jose Suarez, a sophomore chemistry major who spends three to four hours daily in the library on the computers, finds the tool helpful.

“It definitely works,”said Suarez, who generally walks around the library until he finds an available computer.

Gabriel Castro, a senior civil engineering major who visits the library twice a day, said the tool is a good start.

“This is awesome,” said Castro. “It is very straightforward and serves the purpose.”

Ƶ Libraries’ Systems Department, which created the tool, hopes that it will become a vital asset for the students, especially during test-taking time when Ƶ Libraries’ resources are stretched. Students can access the information at via their mobile devices.
