左爱视频鈥檚 Jupiter Lifelong Learning Society will present a lecture by former NASA astronaut Sandra Magnus on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 2:30 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Society complex at 左爱视频鈥檚 John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Dr., in Jupiter.
鈥淧erspectives from Space,鈥 will include Magnus鈥 personal journey to becoming an astronaut, her selection for the 1996 NASA class and the three space missions she participated in during her 16 years with the agency.
Magnus was a member of the final shuttle crew, STS-135 as well as shuttle mission STS-112. In addition, she spent more than four months on the space station as a member of the Expedition 18 crew. The arc of her career coincided with the manufacturing, launching, assembling and operation of the International Space Station and she has extensive experience working with the international partner communities. Prior to her career at NASA she was employed by McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company (now Boeing) in St. Louis, working on stealth technology. She holds a B.S. in physics and a M.S. in electrical engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology and a Ph.D. from the School of Material Science and Engineering at Georgia Tech.
